As Olivet Assembly of Southeast Asia churches research and devise programs to serve the needs of their respective communities, the regional General Office laid out three principles for churches to consider:
1. Research & Plan in Detail
In order to design effective programs, preparation in the form of research of target groups and types of suitable programs is crucial. With the help of survey questionnaires in the neighborhood surrounding the church, the right programs for the right target groups could be planned. Additionally, by diversifying the type of programs, the needs of people from various age groups and backgrounds can be met.
2. Establish Close Relationships
In Asian culture, relationships play a crucial role in everyday life. When a relationship of trust is established, it opens the door to engage and serve more people through the person's network. By following up closely with the needs of the newcomers, it is anticipated that many will be moved to return for future church activities while bringing along their network of friends and family.
3. Persevere in Engaging Communities
Even though the initial period of organizing events may not draw in the expected crowd, church members ought to be constantly encouraged to persevere in their efforts to reach out to their communities, especially their friends and family. As prayers and follow up efforts continue, ministers hope that many will be moved to attend future programs in the church.
OA SEA hopes that churches will be able to organize effective programs and widen their range of outreach to engage their respective communities with the love of Christ.
