2019 New Year Sermon Declares God as Shepherd Who Comforts

New Year Service 2019

The Rev. David Jang delivered a New Year sermon in New York on January 1. The message was from Psalm 23:1-6 entitled "The Lord is My Shepherd, I will Dwell in the House of the Lord Forever."

"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:1-6)"

Below is a summary:

"David knew how important it is to have this confession of faith [for] both shepherd and sheep. Man is a being that exists within the boundary of time. However, David lives in a different dimension that is revealed in this verse. He confessed that the Lord is his shepherd. God is in a higher place and taking care of our lives leading us."

"In David's confession, there is deep contentment. [It is] given by the life following the guidance of the Lord. We wish that this satisfaction also lies in your heart and life. This year is going to be such a year that brings us fullness."

"The Lord restores souls and gives life when a man does not know where to go [and is] lost in a dark valley. This is the faith of the writer of this [psalm]. The Holy Spirit restores our hearts. The Lord [is always with us] just like the shepherd that is tending the sheep.

This grace-filled world will open up in your life just like in this poem. May the Lord's mercy and guidance be upon your life in this new year of 2019 as it is in this beautiful poem.
